- Sweetened lingonberries: Mix lingonberries and sugar in a bowl. Let settle for a couple of hours, occasionally stirring, until the sugar has dissolved.
- Cut Le Gruyère AOP into about 5 mm slices. Lightly whisk the egg. Place bread crumbs in a bowl.
- Dip the cheese slices in the egg, then press each piece into the bread crumbs until evenly coated. Repeat with coating all the slices of cheese in egg and bread crumbs again.
- Heat the oil in a saucepan to 180°C. Deep-fry the cheese until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel and let drain.
- Serve immediately with the lingonberries.
